WINDOWS EXPLORER USING TOO MUCH CPU INSTALL
I downloaded "SysInfo.exe" but it won't install due to an error I'll address in a separate post: "A Required Privilege Is Not Held By The Client." But here the basic computer info:ĭell deskside, Windows 7 (64-bit), Intel dual core CPU, 3 Ghz, 4 Mb RAM. And again, when I'm using the computer I don't have any problems with high CPU or RAM use - it only happens when I put the computer to "sleep" & it doesn't happen every time I do it. Yes, I've run anti-virus & anti-malware scans & I have anti-virus & anti-malware programs running all the time. And every single time CPU usage jumps to 100% explorer.exe is the culprit. I run a program called System Explorer all the time (similar to Process Explorer), which shows every program / process that's running & how much of the CPU & RAM each one is using. Sometimes when I get back to the computer I hear the cooling fan running as fast as it can (usually can't hear it) & when I click a key on the keyboard to "wake" the computer up I see that explorer.exe is using 100% of the CPU's capacity.
But since it takes a while for the computer to start up I usually don't shut it down, I put it "sleep" mode when I'm going to be away for a while, but want to get back to what I was doing with one click. While I'm using the computer it's not a problem - CPU usage rarely goes over 65% & it's usually much lower. I have read countless articles regarding a Windows 7 computer using 100% of the CPU's capacity, but my situation isn't like any of the others described.
